PAY-BY-SPACE
Pay-by-Space parking requires consumers to enter their parking space number at the pay station when paying for parking.
How Pay-by-Space works
1. Consumer notes their space number.
2. Consumer goes to pay station.
3. Consumer enters space number and purchases time.
4. Consumer keeps receipt.
Benefits
1. The consumer does not have to walk back to their vehicle to display a permit on their dashboard.
2. It is ideally suited for large lots where a smaller number of pay stations can be located at strategic locations.
3. Instead of inspecting every vehicle dashboard (PND) or every single-head meter to determine parking validity, an enforcement officer can use a pay station-generated report to determine which spaces are paid up.

PAY-BY-PLATE
Pay-by-Space parking requires consumers to enter their license plate number instead of a space number to purchase parking.
How Pay-by-License Plate works
1. Consumer notes their license plate.
2. Consumer goes to pay station.
3. Consumer enters license plate and purchases time.
4. Consumer keeps receipt.
5. Enforcement operations also use vehicle license plate numbers to verify which vehicles have a valid permit.
Benefits
1. When used in on-street parking, Pay-by-License Plate does not require designated spaces, therefore, the number of vehicles able to park per block is not fixed.
2. The costs associated with installing or painting space numbers are eliminated. In addition, costs associated with space number maintenance such as cleaning, repairs, and snow removal to ensure each space number is always visible are eliminated.
3. Pay-by-License Plate makes paying for parking easier as consumers can pay for their parking using any pay station or their mobile phone. Also, consumers can add time to their parking just as easily using their mobile phone or the nearest pay station.
